What is the Average Penis Size?
If you’ve ever talked about penis size with your buddies, know that the numbers might just be exaggerated. One study revealed that many men overestimate their penis size when sharing numbers, both in social settings and in medical surveys.
But we’re here to look at the facts. A comprehensive study in 2014 analyzed over 15,000 men and over 20,000 measurements of flaccid and erect length and girth size to get real answers. Here’s what they found:
Average Penis Length
Measured from the base of the shaft to the tip.
- Average flaccid penis length: 3.58 inches / 9.09 cm
- Average erect penis length: 5.16 inches / 13.1 cm
Average Penis Girth Size
Measured around the circumference of the shaft.
- Average flaccid penis girth size: 3.66 inches / 7.6 cm
- Average erect penis girth size: 4.59 inches / 11.7 cm
What’s Considered “Big” vs. “Small?”
In the same study, men in the 90th percentile for erect penis length measured at 5.9 inches (15 cm) or longer.
Less than 1% of the group had a “micropenis,” a flaccid length below 2.04 inches or about 5 cm. Supporting studies estimate approximately 2.2% of the population has a flaccid length of 2.36 inches or 6 cm.
Why Do Men Get Penis Enlargement?

Besides bigger results, men often experience life-changing benefits after treatment. This all ties back to why men get penis enlargement procedures done in the first place.
Here are a few common reasons:
