Reasons for Hair Loss

Most people will experience hair loss at some point in their lives. Many women are concerned about thinning or losing hair on specific areas of their scalp, while men can be affected by male pattern baldness at any age.

There are many reasons for hair loss, including:

  • Age and hereditary factors
  • Male pattern baldness
  • Hormonal imbalance caused by pregnancy, menopause, or drugs
  • Hair damage caused by external factors such as dyes, chemicals, or styling tools
  • Certain illnesses including thyroid problems or anemia
  • Emotional factors such as stress and anxiety
  • Scalp infections
  • Some medications including blood thinners

What is PRP Hair Loss Treatment?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections are a safe, highly effective and non-surgical method of hair loss treatment and hair restoration for men and women.

PRP therapy works by injecting concentrated platelets from your own blood into areas of your scalp to stimulate hair regrowth. The injections cause minor inflammation that activates the platelets and allows them to nourish, stimulate and revive active and dormant hair follicles.

The procedure is meant to:

  • Recruit new hairs to grow
  • Invigorate and revitalize existing hair

The therapy is non-surgical, with little to no side effects or risk of allergic reaction.

PRP is also a well established and successful treatment method in orthopedics, plastic surgery, and sports medicine.

Benefits of PRP for Thinning Hair

Platelet Rich Plasma therapy is a safe and minimally invasive treatment for hair-loss without the use of chemicals or foreign substances. As the treatment uses your body’s own unique materials, PRP injections have no risk of rejection, allergies or infections.

PRP hair treatment benefits include:

The treatment has proven to be most effective for patients who are at the initial and middle stages of hair loss, versus those who are completely bald. Therefore, if you are noticing an overall loss of volume in your hair, are starting to develop a receding hairline, or have noticed bald spots on your scalp, contact us today.

What to Expect at Your Hair Consultation

The initial hair consultation is an excellent opportunity to address your questions and explore the potential outcomes of treatment. The full hair consultation with Dr. Tortora includes:

Your appointment will begin with a thorough conversation and diagnosis of your type of hair loss. Dr. Tortora will also review any other relevant health conditions, as well as the nutrient deficiencies or hair practices which may be negatively impacting your hair.

The consultation includes a detailed scalp assessment where photos are taken to determine the percentage and degree of your hair loss.

Dr. Tortora will work with you to create a treatment plan specific to your needs, which may include in-office PRP treatments, at-home treatments such as topical solutions or lasers, and a nutrition/supplements plan.

While the free scalp assessment is an excellent first step, we recommend the entire consultation to understand the full picture of your hair loss and the treatments available to help you.
